6 reasons you should have a Hair & Makeup trial.

(for your wedding day)

Hi, my name is Lauren Garfitt. I’ve been working in the wedding industry for 6 years as a professional makeup and hair stylist. I hope the following can provide some useful information so you know a little more about what a hair & makeup trial is and why you should have one.

1. Sometimes what we think will suit us doesn’t. Have you scoured the internet for inspiration images but can’t envisage the look on your individual skin-tone/hair colour and face shape? A trial is perfect so you can try out what you’ve been thinking about and your artist will be able to suggest what will suit you and turn it into something wonderful.

Top tip- Sometimes the only way to know if something suits you is to try it out.

2. The photographs matter- Unless you model for a living you’ll probably never be photographed as much as you are on your wedding day! During your trial I’ll always take photographs and send them on to the brides, it’s the perfect opportunity to see what your hair and makeup will look like in a photograph.

Top tip- Makeup can look very different when photographed.

3. It’s a great chance to meet your artist, to chat about your vision, build a rapport and ask questions.

Top tip- Finding an artist who you can communicate naturally with will be so helpful!

4. It’s crucial for the professional to take time to understand how you want to look and feel. It’s also a chance to discover what products does and doesn’t suit your skin, making sure we are prepared for your big day!

Top tip- Think of it like a dress rehearsal!

5. The outfit affects the hair & makeup- whether you’re wearing a custom-made suit or a wedding dress it’s extremely helpful to see what the overall look will be and if it matches!

Top tip- Don’t forget to bring your veil, and jewellery with you to your trial!

6. It’s worth the investment! The cost can vary depending on your location, wedding date and the experience of your stylist. Where I’m based in the South of the UK it usually starts at around £100 per person for one service and can go up to £500 and beyond. It’s worth doing your research and considering what it is you’re looking for before searching for your stylist.

Top tip- It’s like with anything else in life- you get what you pay for.

I hope this was helpful- just remember that this is a fun experience! Enjoy it, sit back, relax and let the stylist pamper you.
