Which makeup Brand is best?
This question always takes me a back. I think it’s because it’s such a big question. It’s like trying to answer who’s the best singer or who’s the best band in the world. There’s lots of potential answers, and yeh, there’s clear favourites but no clear winner.
I won’t be able to tell you which make up brand is best, so I thought the next best thing would be to divulge all of my secrets and tell you all of my favourite products… I‘m always reaching for these!! For fun I thought I’d also name the top 3 makeup brands that are just doing it for me at the minute! I keep my eye on these brands, stalk their websites and look out for their exciting, innovative products. (Keep reading to see the list…) Eeee, it’s like the Oscar’s!
While there isn’t a brand that can do-it-all there’s some brands that come pretty close. I remember when I was a kid, shopping on the high street for makeup, the options were pretty limited (the 90’s). We have so much available to us now, makeup brands that are cruelty free, and/or vegan. Makeup brands that have more color shade inclusivity and all round better quality products. The market is more competitive so the products have to keep up.
The individual make up artist will have many reasons that factor into deciding what products go into their kit. Before I invest in putting something new in my kit I always test it on myself first. If I wouldn’t put it on my skin then there’s no way I’m using it on my client!! We tend to love products that do multiple things, and would work on many skin types. A makeup artists tools are so important, so the quality of a product is high on make-up artists wish list. This may not always be the highest priority on everyones list for someone looking for a basic, everyday makeup bag. However I’d consider taking these factors into consideration as the quality of the makeup does matter, in terms of longevity of the product and how it treats your skin in the long run!
It’s not all good…
Another reason that it’s impossible to pick the best makeup brand is because it’s hard to find a brand that smashes it every time. For example, their eyeshadows and mascara may be INCREDIBLE, while the concealer and blushers are disappointing. A product that jumps to mind is the NARS climax mascara. I’m not a fan, I find it clumpy and I hate the fat brush on it. But if it works for you then cool. I’ve tried it, and I prefer Maybelline.
OK, so here we go…
These are some of my current favourite brands, including the products that I’m obsessed with…
The perfect foundation for brides, Coming in at number 1…
DIOR Backstage Edition
DIOR, you’re so clever! I’m in love with the backstage makeup range. They’ve really smashed it, honestly. My favourite product so far is the Dior Face & Body foundation. It’s lightweight, buildable and waterproof. Plus it comes in a really user-friendly sized bottle for the travelling freelance makeup artist! It works on almost every skin type and roof, I just love the sheer, buildable coverage- and it looks SO beautiful on camera.
For the best concealer, coming in at Number 2…
NARS
NARS have been one of the best for a while right? Masters of skin, their Radiant Creamy concealer has been a staple in my kit for years. It has a natural, radiant finish, it lasts beautifully and the coverage is medium-buildable. I also love their blushers, pencils and Powermatte Lip pigment’s.
For the most luxurious vibes, coming in at Number 3…
CHARLOTTE TILBURY
OK, I love this brand, not only do the products feel luxurious on the skin they look beautiful too. It feels like you’re getting an experience when you use these products. I don’t love every product they do, but I’m yet to find a product I absolutely hate. My favourite product is the flawless filter, and my least is probably the full coverage foundation- while it’s a beautiful foundation on the right skin tone (oily). It’s not a staple in my kit because I tend to find the clients I work with want a more sheer finish, and it really doesn’t sit well on skin that is at all dry or lacking moisture!
Stand out products in my personal kit;
Products I use everyday, in my own kit that I love and have bought time after time…
SKY HIGH Maybelline mascara - Maybelline, I love your mascaras.
IT Cosmetics CC cream - It’s a sell out product for a reason!
NYX lip pencils - great formula, not too dry and not too soft. Glides on beautifully and has a good range of shades.
Delilah Gel eyeliner - Vegan. Amazing formula, can be used on eyeliner and eyebrow.
